Rehoboth Historical Cemetery Number 19

The Capt. Israel Nichols Cemetery is located in the yard behind 172 Moulton Street. Please be aware that some documents incorrectly list this cemetery as being on Plain Street. The photograph above was taken on July 18, 2008.

Capt Israel Nichols was an officer in the Revolutionary Army and succumbed to small-pox in 1800.

It appears that Capt Israel Nichols and his wife Rhobe are the only persons buried in this lot. They had four sons but there are only the two headstones and two corresponding footstones as shown in the photograph above.

The headstone of Israel's wife spells her name Rhobe. Her name is spelled "Rhoda" in A History of Rehoboth by Leonard Bliss and is spelled yet a third way as "Robe' in William Cutler's "New England Families Genealogical and Memorial"
