Abel Shorey's Family Bible, shown above was started in 1816 The oldest record documented in the book was the birth of Patience Read 80 years earlier in 1736

Both images of the Abel Shorey Bible can be enlarged by clicking them.

There are four inscribed pages in the bible. The first is labeled Marriage with the reverse side saying Children's marriages. The third and fourth pages are labeled the same. The contents of those page are listed below.

MARRIAGE  (Page 1)

"Abel Shorey Son of John Shorey of Seekonk, Massachusetts and Patience his wife was born in the above place". (Abel's date of birth is listed as Sept 12, 1766 and his DOD is listed as Jan 18th 1858). 

"Mary Shorey daughter of Oliver Read and Hannah his wife of Seekonk, Massachusetts was born in that place." (Mary's DOB is listed as Dec 10th 1763 and her DOD is listed as Feb 14th 1816).

The above named were married November 25th, 1790 by the Reverend John Ellis, Pastor of the First Congregationalist Church of Seekonk.

Nancy Shorey  daughter of Ebenezer & Abigail Fuller of Rehoboth Massachusetts was born at that place. (DOB May 9th 1786. DOD July 2nd, 1867). and was married to the above named Abel Shorey on March 29, 1818 in Rehoboth by the Reverend Otis Thompson Pastor of the First Congregationalist Church of that place.

Abel Shorey Jr was born Sunday July 8th 1821 died Oct 4, 1893

Lucy Shorey was born Friday January 7th 1825 died January 8th 1833

Patience Shorey was born Sept 26th 1827

Abel Shorey was married to Mary A Risley daughter of John and Mary Risley of providence RI Oct 29 1843

 

There is a handwritten note stuck in the bible. Based on the content, it appears to have been written in the mid 1800s. It says:

Abel Shorey

Mary Ann Risley his wife

Nancy Fuller his mother

Abel Shorey 1766 his father

Olive Fuller Shorey (Lake now) his sister

Patience Shorey (Colwell now) his sister
